Vir Biotechnology (Vir), a San Francisco based company focused on infectious diseases seeks a 6-month contract Research Associate for Process Analytics to support the development of monoclonal antibodies for our infectious disease programs. You will be working in our analytical laboratory using diverse analytical methodologies as needed. These methods will initially be HPLC, cIEF, SDS-PAGE gel, UV/SPEC, pH, and other routine lab functions as needed. As a key member of Vir’s core lab services group, you will have the chance to learn about modern testing methods for biotechnology products while implementing state of the art methods to measure critical product attributes of our MAb portfolio while being exposed to a broad range of activities both inside and outside of the laboratory.
Running HPLC methods under supervision of senior lab personnel, however the ability to work well independently is needed.
Providing experimental/hands-on support to enable process development activities.
Assist implementation of HPLC techniques for analysis of MAbs such as ProteinA, SEC, and IEX.
Help to implement biochemical and biophysical methods for IgG characterization, including protein and glycan analysis (gel electrophoresis, CE, HPLC, LC/MS).
Assist in implementation of relevant high throughput analytical approaches (such as LabChip GXII and Protein Simple).
Collaborative work with other scientific staff in CMC, PD and Research organizations.
Participation in PD development studies, as appropriate.
Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Solid understanding of experiment design and fluency in the scientific concepts that underlie these methodological approaches.
Excellent organization and communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively, and an enthusiasm for problem solving.
An appetite for rapid learning and improvement is critical to success in this position.
Ability to work in a high paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work from multiple projects.
Hands on experience with analysis of biomolecules especially IgG Antibody drugs using diverse analytical technologies, such as chromatography, gel electrophoresis, and particle analysis, is beneficial.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and some familiarity with representation on inter-disciplinary and cross-functional teams.
A dedication to developing strong relationships with various customers throughout the organization.
BS/MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or a similar discipline with 1+ years of experience in a chemical industrial, analytical chemical or biologics environment. Exposure to Biotechnology through work or educational experience is a plus.
